Parks Canada places Lake Louise 55 km west of Banff. Road time varies with traffic and parking controls; a guided tour or transit avoids searching for limited parking.
No. Moraine Lake Road is closed to private vehicles year-round. Access is by Parks Canada shuttle, public transit or a licensed commercial operator, normally from June to mid-October.
Banff has cold mountain lakes, not a sea coast or beach resort. Swimming is allowed in several lakes, but Parks Canada says there are no public boat docks; motorboats are limited to Lake Minnewanka under special rules.
